INTERNSHIP POSITIONS - Fall 2011
POSITION TITLE: Assistant to the Instructor
NUMBER OF POSITIONS AVAILABLE: 2
STARTING DATE: Wednesday, September 14, 2011 (Some Flexibility)
COMMITMENT:
1) Creative Storytelling, Jr. & Creative Storytelling, Sr. classes: 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. every Wednesday from September 14 through December 7, 2011
2) Junior Acting Ensemble class: 4:45 - 6:26 p.m. every Wednesday from September 14 through December 7, 2011
Extra rehearsal times may be required the last week of November through December 10, 2011.
Holiday Showcase for family and friends will be on Saturday, December 10, 2011.
LOCATION: Sirius Theatrical Company studio in Etobicoke
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
The focus of this position is to provide assistance to the course instructor before, during and after each class. You may be required to assist with preparing the studio space before a class and cleaning up and resetting the space in preparation for the next class. You will be responsible for taking attendance and tracking attendance from week to week. You will be expected to fully participate in all activities during each class, to demonstrate exercises and activities, and to encourage and assist individual students where necessary. Working with the instructor, you may be required to supervise students arriving early to a class or leaving later after their class. For the younger students, you may be required to assist with taking off and/or putting on winter clothing, accompanying young students to the bathroom, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The chosen candidates will need to be organized, enthusiastic, able to take initiative and accept responsibility, able to arrive on time and have a high standard of excellence. We are seeking two students with a sense of humour who love drama and truly enjoy working with young children. Physical agility is a must.
SPECIFIC ATTRIBUTES AND SKILLS WE ARE LOOKING FOR INCLUDE:
Drama experience either at the Grade 10 level or higher and/or experience in an independent drama program outside of the school curriculum. For the younger Creative Storytelling courses we may consider students with drama and/or dance experience who are in Grade 8 or 9.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Sense of humour.
Baby Sitting Experience – St. John’s Ambulance Baby Sitting Course Certificate would be an asset.
Previous Volunteer Experience working with young children either in a summer camp or through a recreational program such as Parks and Recreation, etc..
Passion for teaching and working with young children.
Passion for the Dramatic Arts in general.
This is an unpaid internship. However, there may be an opportunity to gain high school volunteer credits. The position may also be extended into the winter / spring term from January through May, 2012.
