Company History
The Sirius Theatrical Company is based in the south Etobicoke area of Toronto amid the old established community neighbourhoods of Mimico, Lakeshore, New Toronto and Long Branch. It was founded by Artistic Director, Heather Dick in 1989 as a small, independent theatre company that focused on producing shows on a project by project basis. Today, we create compelling, innovative, multi-disciplinary performance pieces that reflect cultural and artistic diversity, and we offer training opportunities for emerging theatre artists. In all our activities, we value excellence, integrity, inclusivity, innovation and leadership.
Since 2005, we have been warmly welcomed by the Board and congregation of Mimico Presbyterian Church. Our home is now a wonderful 80-seat proscenium arch, black box theatre in Donald Hendry Hall, the original 100 year-old church structure. This is where we rehearse, teach and perform 1 to 2 productions a year. We live and work in the local community and recognize that many different cultures, social groups, economic backgrounds and ages exist side by side in South Etobicoke so, we strive to include this broad mix in the scripts we animate, in our casting and in our staff. We work hard to be a good business in the community and to inspire, engage and foster a love of theatre.
We offer acting workshops and classes, both professional and recreational, to provide a training ground for emerging performers, community members who wish to explore their inner performer, and professionals who wish to build their presentation and communication skills. Our teachers are skilled professionals.
“Bravo! A delight!”
"I was totally blown away by your play - it was not what I was expecting"
“Great Play!” and
“Loved it!” are just some of the comments we have received.
As an integral part of our productions we offer mentoring opportunities for emerging theatre artists to work and train with the professionals on our teams because we believe that hands-on learning is a very important aspect of theatre training. We produce performance projects as well as readings of new works.
The Company is a member of the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA), the Toronto Association of Acting Studios (TAAS), Theatre Ontario, Lakeshore Arts, the Mississauga ArtsCouncil, and Arts Etobicoke.
